About Us

Cynon Linc is an inclusive community hub that sits at the heart of the Cynon Valley.

Vision

The project to redevelop the former St Mair's Day Centre into an inclusive community hub was led by a partnership that included Age Connects Morgannwg, Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, Cwm Taff University Health Board and partners from the third sector and the local community.

For more than 150 years, St Mair’s in Aberdare was a fixture of daily life in the town, first as a church and then a popular day centre for older people. St Mair’s Church opened its doors in November 1864, it was built for the Welsh speaking Anglican congregation of Aberdare and served the town for almost 100 years. When the church was demolished in 1963. the site was developed and rebuilt as the St Mair’s Centre, a day centre for older people in the area.

Work

In August 2018, ACM took over the running of St Mair's ahead of starting major refurbishment work. Construction work started on 17th August 2020 and the building contractor was M and J Cosgrove Contractors Ltd.

The design of the building was provided by Ongl Interior Design and Oriel Design. Work on the building was completed just 12 months later, ahead of a public opening on 4th October 2021.

Funding

The renovation project was supported by a number of funding bodies. These included The National Lottery Community Fund, Dunhill Medical Trust, Pen Y Cymoedd and The Welsh Government Integrated Care Fund.

Services

Cynon Linc is the home for several organisations including the new head office of Age Connects Morgannwg. Their information point will allow the community to access the charity’s services which support and enable older people to live a healthier, more independent life. This includes community support, independent advocacy and befriending, as well as nail cutting and information and advice.

The Hyb kitchen and coffee shop sits at the heart of the building and offers quality tea and coffee, healthy light bites and full meals, all overseen by two trained chefs and a skilled catering team. Another popular part of the facility is Little Lincs, a soft play facility that opened to the public in March 22.

Also based at Cynon Linc are Maendy Surgery, Simply Nails, and Llamau.
